Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays are important diagnostic tools. They can assist in diagnosing tooth decay, bone loss, improper tooth and root positions, abscesses, cysts, tumors, and other issues. With proper diagnosis, the appropriate treatment can be offered, thus preventing the situation from worsening. Traditionally, film radiography (film-based x-rays) were used for dental imaging, but thanks to technological advancement, digital x-rays becoming the standard of care. At The Dentists at North Cypress, we believe in offering the best experience during dental exams, which is why we use digital x-rays for imaging.

Digital X-Rays

How Do Digital X-Rays Differ From Conventional X-Rays?

In conventional x-rays, a burst of x-ray radiation is directed towards your mouth, where it penetrates the oral structure and then strikes the film. This creates an impression of your oral structure on the film, which is then developed to produce an x-ray image.

Instead of using film, digital x-rays, make use of an electronic sensor that is placed in your mouth during the imaging procedure. A much-reduced burst of radiation is used to penetrate the oral structure and then strikes the sensor which creates an image of your mouth structure, which is immediately visible on a computer screen.

Benefits Of Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays have many advantages over traditional film-based x-rays.

• Faster—With digital x-rays, images are produced instantly on a computer screen, which eliminates the need to develop films thus saving time

• Less radiation exposure—Digital x-rays help to cut down on the radiation exposure (by up to 90%) making them safer.

• Higher-quality images—Digital x-rays produce a clearer, higher-quality image. The digital image can be edited through magnification, sharpening, increasing or reducing contrast and brightness to produce clearer details making detection and diagnosis possible earlier and more accurately

• Easier storage and transfer of digital records—Digital images are easier and more secure to store, and when needed, to share with other dental professionals
